Kurze Zeit später wurde die erste Tchibo-Filiale als Kaffeegeschäft mit Probeausschank in Hamburg eröffnet. Das Filialnetz wuchs rasch. Bereits acht Jahre später entstanden in Bäckereien und Konditoreien die so genannten Frische-Depots. 1965 übernahm Max Herz Sohn Günther Herz das Unternehmen. Unter seiner Leitung wurde wenige Jahre später das Kaffeesortiment durch Gebrauchsartikel ergänzt. Das Frischedepot wurde auf den Lebensmitteleinzelhandel ausgeweitet. 1988 wandelt sich die „Frisch-Röst-Kaffee AG“ zur „Tchibo Holding AG“ um und gründete die Tochterfirma „Tchibo Frisch-Röst-Kaffee“. Sie übernahm die Aufgaben des Kaffeestammhauses und wurde 2004 zur „Tchibo GmbH“. Ab 1991 wurde das Auslandsgeschäft von der ebenfalls neu gegründeten Tochter „Tchibo-International“ übernommen. Seit 1996 trat Tchibo auch als Versandunternehmen auf. Die Gebrauchsartikel und Waren konnten seitdem vom Kunden über Katalog bestellt werden. Daneben stieg das Unternehmen in die Touristikbranche ein. Ein Jahr später wurde Tchibo auch online für den Kunden erreichbar. Seit dem Jahr 2000 existierte das Tchibo Magazin und man war in TV-Spots präsent. Seit 2003 ging die Führung des Konzerns dann an Michael, Wolfgang und Joachim Herz (Die WELT 2003). Im Oktober 2004 startete die Tchibo Mobilfunk GmbH den Eintritt in das Mobiltelefongeschäft. Das Food- Sortiment wurde um Schokolade erweitert (Tchibo Historie 2005).

Metalocalypse

Wonderful book. Has all 4 Dark Horse comics from Dethklok Vs the Goon to the three Metalocalypse ones. Even includes all the covers for each issue.

Sadly, doesn't not have anything extra, but it's still an excellent buy.

Funny, but confusing if you haven't watched the TV series

I got a copy of this graphic novel through NetGalley(dot)com. I am not sure why I decided to read it, it just looked interesting. I have never watched the Dethklok Adult Swim TV series that this graphic novel is based on, so that may be why I found some parts of the graphic novel confusing. The illustration is decent quality and the stories are pretty funny...if a bit confusing at times.

This graphic novel is a series of stories that follow around the heavy metal band Dethklok as they strive to bring about the Metalocalypse through various strange forms of promotion, advertising, and performance. This is definitely aimed at adults there is a lot of gore, sex, violence, drug usage, and swearing.

Each chapter tells a story about Dethklok and one of their adventures. For example the first chapter tells about Dethklok and their quest to start their own frozen food line. Each chapter ends in mayhem, violence, and the death of many. I have to admit a number of these chapters had me laughing out loud; granted they require a pretty dark sense of humor but they are funny and very over-the-top. They poke wonderful fun at both death metal and corporate America.

That being said there were some parts of the chapters that were just plan confusing. Maybe if I had watched the TV series beforehand I would understand what was going on better. When the clowns come into the story, I was like what the heck is going on? I think they are supposed to be drug-induced hallucinations or something, but they are never explained very well and don't add much to the story. I found myself skimming these parts of the story because they just didn't make sense to me.

The illustrations were pretty high quality, although a bit more cartoonish than I usually like. The artistic style fits nicely with the craziness of the storyline.

Overall while I found a couple of the chapters to be highly amusing, there were a lot of other parts of the story where I was just confused. The illustration is a little bit more cartoonish than I usually like, but it fit the tone of the stories well. I think fans of the TV series will really enjoy this graphic novel adaptation. People who are new to Dethklok, like me, will probably be a bit confused. This is definitely aimed at an adult audience and not for anyone who is squeamish, so just a heads up.

a gorgeously-bound, brutal graphic novel

This is a great collection of new Dethklok stories. One reviewer said it was confusing because she hadn't seen the show. Well, yeah, it's based on a show... go watch the show first.

She also said the art was too cartoonish. Umm, it's based on... a... cartoon.

Anyway, fans will love it. Something to tide you over until Brendon Small finishes season 5 of the show (please Brendon! One more season at least! Don't leave us hanging, man!). ;-}>

About the Author
Imani True has been writing�all of her life. She wrote her first erotic story in 2007, and was fortunate to team up with Dreama Skye a year later. Strawberries, Stilettos, and Steam is their first collaboration. Even though Imani has lived on the West Coast for over fifteen years, she still considers herself a Native New Yorker at heart. When she's not writing, Imani keeps busy with a traditional 9 to 5, preparing for the day when her writing pays the bills. Her dream is to write on the beaches of Hawaii or in the Caribbean. Ms. True is currently working on several novels and a few screenplays with her son. Her work can also be read in Between the Sheets, published by Delphine Publications. Another collection with Dreama Skye is already in the works.

Dreama Skye knew she was destined to be a writer from the moment she held a pen in her hand. She has been writing erotic poetry since 1998. She has focused her writing into erotic-themed stories in more recent years. Fate and destiny collided when Dreama met Imani True. Dreama was born in the beautiful bluegrass state of Kentucky where she currently resides with her two lovely daughters. Ms. Skye is currently working on a volume of erotic poetry and her first novel, as well as another collection with Imani True. More Soft Core, Less Story

Strawberries, Stilettos and Steam by Imani True and Dreama Skye is a collection of erotic shorts. The book starts off with a woman about to slip into a hot bubble bath with a glass of champagne and a bowl of strawberries beside the tub....all in front of a webcam. She opens a package that she received earlier in the day that included a book that just so happens to be Strawberries, Stilettos and Steam, and she proceeds to read. There's a story about a student that attends classes online and just so happens to to get it on while class is in session; A woman who is bi-curious and meets someone online to quench her fantasy; A young man in college notices his best-friend's mother who is bound and determined to show him he's not a little boy anymore; A masked man that is going around climbing in the window of the women in the courthouse and sexing them; a cop that fantasizes about her partner and many more.

Strawberries, Stilettos and Steam by Imani True and Dreama Skye was just okay...nothing more, nothing less. The first story in the book called "Detour" had a lot of conflicting scenes, not to mention the story with the courthouse. If a good developmental editor would have read these stories, they would have surely caught what I am referring to. There are also some editing issues, and the sex scenes were not as descriptive as they could have been. Saying they had sex for hours is not telling me exactly what they did in that time frame. There also seemed to be more girl on girl sex than any other stories. I understand that erotic is supposed to be heavily laced with sex but with a story. Unfortunately, Strawberries, Stilettos and Steam lacked the story and went straight to soft core porn.

I went through a gamut of feelings: from shy (making that phone call in 'Turned On, Turned Out'), to aroused (and wet) wanting Shade to call me in 'Pussy Dreams'! The prologue had me hooked from "web cam on"! The book is hot, spicy, and left me creaming-and wanting more!

Now this is fun!

This is one GORE-geous collection! It's been a while since I took a look at these pages, since the single issues came out a little while back, but I was still in love with the way things turned out. I think that the character designs are just flat out great, sure we got the typical comic book styled school cast, but who cares, it looks good! Add to that some great coloring work, nice lettering and you got yourself a winner. Of course who can forget those drop dead scenes of horror, where someone get offed. Overall a great looking book that is added on when add in the extras with the trade.

Story: 4.0 out of 5
I am going to go a little lower on the story for one main reason, I thought the book bordered too much on the edge of good horror story vs. B-Style horror story. Now it's not a bad thing at all, I just found at moments it was too cheesy and then a little to serious. So my horrible negativity aside, I now have to say how much I loved this story overall. I found the dialogue to be great throughout, nothing seemed choppy or to out of place. The twist was killer too. Just good stuff all around.

So here is what I have to say to the creators, when can I expect more work from you guys? This book is great from the first page to the last. I love the artwork and am floored by the story. I don't know if I would say it really mixed the two movies, but I can see the certain similarities. Bottom line is this, if you want to read something fun, this is it. If you want to read something creepy, this is it. If you want to read something I will be reading time and time again, this is it. Fantastic stuff, now start writing some more!

Bad Kids Go To Hell (the Graphic Novel) is wholly predictable

Bad Kids Go to Hell is in its second printing, but I became aware of it at last week's Stan Lee's Comikaze Con, when I met the author Matthew Spradlin - who signed a new copy for me. The comic has been adapted as a horror film, so it has to have something going for it, but story is not a reason to pick this one up. Bad Kids go to Hell is sort of Poltergeist meets Breakfast Club written by a slasher movie fan. Six snotty kids are tossed into detention together and placed in a library knowingly built on an Indian burial ground. The guys who built the library went out of their way to steal the land from its Indian guardian. So, supernatural trouble follows. In flashback we learn why each of the kids was sent into this lockdown, and they continue to tell their tales of woe after one of them has been killed. Each of the characters is so overly aggressive and narrowly codified that it reads with such predictability as to be painful. The structure of the tale is sloppy, the pace grating, and the believability factor so near zero that it ruins any attempt to correlate or flow with logic. In other words, it will be a great, and typical, slasher film.

Another drag on the graphic novel is the shoddy construction of the book itself. I have pondered from time to time why it is that several great artistic works are so shoddily bound as to allow the pages to fall out? If you spent that much effort, time and money to create powerful full color image, spend the extra pennies to get a printer with a decent binder system. On this issue alone it is hard to ever recommend a book. You should never have to shell out $14.99 for a book that falls apart in your hands.

Gripes aside, the tome has a few things pulling for it. The foremost is an appeal to the set of comic buyers who want titillation over substance or story. The women in this book are all hot. They are drawn to sexy mythological standards, perfect bodies, and are wanting for the reader to see them. The book does not resort to nudity, but it might as well have. There is a series of ads in the back of the book about scantily dressed women, pitching "Girls and Corpses Magazine", "Nerd Girl Pinups" and a photo-spread of fans of the first print who appear to be hopefuls for the "going wild" videos. If that appeals to you, so will Bad Kids go to Hell. You don't even have to read it, just turn page and drool.

The biggest plus for the effort is the artwork. The realistic based endeavor really showcases the drawing talent of Anthony Vargas and Chris Allen. Details in faces are consistent, the texture of the setting is appealing, and the supernatural and bloody elements show a determined and successful use of the color palette. It may be the sole reason to pick up the comic.

Not very interesting

Bad Kids Go to Hell is equal parts The Breakfast Club, The House on Haunted Hill and The Grudge, all stripped of their cinematic splash and crammed into a lackluster graphic novel.

The problem is, the plot never really clicks, the two-dimensional characters never earn much sympathy and the story as a whole just trundles along in an effort to be something new ... which it's not.

You have a group of vastly diverse students locked in a library for Saturday detention as a school administrator and maintenance man tend to their own business elsewhere in the building. These kids never bond or anything, they just co-exist and occasionally clash. When the first one dies, you're mostly just relieved to have one less to keep track of.
