The book is an adventure story about Tatanka N�jin,a Lakota Sioux warrior, and Bright Heart, a Nez Perce maiden. They live in the Rocky Mountains during the height of the mountain men era of the early 1800's. Tatanka's father was a Scottish mountain man, and his mother was a Lakota. This is a continuation of Tatanka's and Bright Heart's exploits and bittersweet love story from the first book entitled "Tatanka - Spirit Walker." In "Tatanka - Return of the Horses," Tatanka and Bright Heart embark on an arduous journey as they drive a heard of Appaloosa horses through the Rocky Mountains to return them to her homeland.

Tatanka- Return of the Horses by Virgil Foutz

Tatanka- Return of the Horses by Buddy Foutz. Buddy is a high school classmate of mine from a small town in Northwestern New Mexico. Our home town is circled by several American Indian reservations and we had a number of American Indians as fellow classmates. So it is not unusal that the main character of Buddy's first two books is an Indian Warrior. In his first book Tatanka- Spirit Walker he introduces you to Tatanka, his life and trials. This second book is a continuation of this Warriors life. The author is extremely talented in drawing the reader into the story. I felt like at times I was sitting in front of the camp fire listening to the daily discussion about how was the best time of the year and path to return some forty horses to Bright Heart's Father, the Chief or her tribe. The west, in this early time of our country, was mostly inhabited by numerous Indian tribes and a few fur trappers. So if you are only two individuals driving 40 horses across this country, you can bet than running into either an Indian raiding party or small groups of fur trappers, they are going to be very interested in relieving you of some or all of your horses. Tatanka continues to demonstrate his Warrior talents in maintaining ownership of the horses. Again as in his first book, Buddy has demonstrated great knowledge of American Indian life, traditions and languages. This book is exciting, keeps your interest and full of history for an individual interested in the American Indian life and our countries Western lands.

Tatanka's Epic Adventure Continues

Mr. Foutz continues the exciting epic adventures of Tatanka and his friends. Tatanka's goal is to return a herd of well bred Appaloosas to their rightful guardians.
As this adventure unfolds, Mr. Foutz provides further insight into Native culture, thought and behavior as Tatanka, and those around him, thrive in the midst of natural disasters, horse thieves, fur trappers and the invasion of illegal immigrants.
Tatanka moves forward in his journey to become a better person while helping those around him. He is the epitomy of what we would like to become as we strive on our own path for truth and goodness. Tatanka often plays the trickster to teach valuable lessons to those who will not learn from listening.
