Laura Candler is a teacher with 29 years of classroom experience in grades 4 through 6. She has a Master's Degree in Elementary Education, National Board Certification as a Middle Childhood Generalist, and was a Milken Family Foundation Award winner in 2000.

Excellent "Instruction Manual" to set up a workshop approach to reading

Must have if you are doing or planning on implementing Readers' Workshop. I am a literacy coach and would highly recommend this book. It will get you set up and take you through step by step how to begin and maintain a workshop approach to reading. LOVE IT!!!! Don't hesitate to buy. Tremendous guide.

Good resource - wish it had more, though

I like how this book is set up - a step-by-step guide to setting up and running readers workshop. I just wish there was a bit more - Laura Candler has SO MUCH good stuff on teaching reading (and everything else!) it would have been nice if she had included more of her great comprehension lessons and how to use them in a readers workshop setting...still, I'm glad I bought the book.
